Tim Atkin, Master of Wine and one of the most recognized wine journalists has recently published an extensive report about Rioja wines and the current situation.
Tim Atkin visited our region two times in the last months and he had tasted more than 530 wines in Rioja. According to his words: “This report has been gestating for years. I thought about writing something similar a year ago, but decided that I wanted to spend more time in the region talking to producers and visiting vineyards before I committed my thoughts to paper. This is my first attempt to describe, classify and enthuse about an area that fascinates me. If you’ve been to Rioja and experienced its landscape, its food, its people and, most important of all, its wines”
Atkin introduces the area with 10 things you need to know about Rioja to learn more about the climate, the varieties and trends and he also suggests his personal classification and rates the wines.
Viña El Pisón has been chosen as the best Rioja wine with 99 points. Also, Tim has a special place for our Single Vineyard Wines, ARTADI El Carretil (98 points), ARTADI Valdeginés (97 points) y ARTADI La Poza de Ballesteros (96 points) as his favourites getting the highest place among the best ones.
ARTADI Viñas de Gain was tasted in the latest vintages 2012 and 2013 and, in Atkin scale it got 93 and 92 point respectively. This wine is a representative wine from our winery which has been made since 1991. Its origin is in the three villages where we grow our vineyards; Laguardia, El Villar de Álava and Leza.
